Local Lifestyle

Carbondale is a small town with a community charm that is hard to find these days. The

long-running tradition of ranching is still alive and well in Carbondale, alongside a community of outdoor lovers. There is a wealth of opportunities to make friends and attend community events with other families.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Despite being in a landlocked state, Carbondale has a quality sushi spot in Izakaya, a trendy and authentic Japanese restaurant. Izakaya is open for dinner with an appetizing menu of tonkotsu ramen and sushi.

For a weekend brunch, Village Smithy is an inviting local favorite that fulfills every craving. From waffles to huevos rancheros, the menu has a Western flair that will leave you satisfied. If you’re in a hurry, it also has a menu of to-go burritos. If you’re taking it slow, the open-air patio is a great place to relax with a bloody mary.

Vegetarian options abound at White House Pizza, a cozy but refined pizza joint with a picturesque patio. You can get classic pizzas but also fun, experimental options like the pad thai

pie. Craft cocktails, microbrews on tap, and fine wines are also offered.

For leisurely recreation to fill the weekend, the River Valley Ranch golf course is a popular local option. Not only is the 18-hole championship course challenging and engaging, but it’s also situated for breathtaking mountain views for the duration of your play. You can stop by Bonfire Coffee before your tee time for a boost of caffeine to get you through the game. Bonfire has exquisite artisan espresso made from beans roasted locally in Colorado for the freshest cup possible.

Most newcomers to the area have to do some stocking up on outdoor recreation equipment. The Cripple Creek Backcountry flagship store in Carbondale is a one-stop shop for any and all snow sport gear. For warm weather gear, Independence Run & Hike is extremely well stocked and has a friendly staff to help you find what you’re looking for and share insider tips about the local hiking and running trails.

Things to Do

Carbondale is a lively town with an active community. During the summers, First Fridays are held once a month. The event involves blocking off a section of Main Street, which allows locals and visitors to enjoy Carbondale’s restaurants, art galleries, and live music.

A similar event on a much larger scale is Mountain Fair, held by Carbondale Arts. This county-fair-style festival is a warm three-day celebration that includes concerts, food vendors, art vendors, and a pie baking contest.

For another summer night filled with excitement, the Carbondale Wild West Rodeo is a one-of-a-kind experience held every Thursday evening throughout the summer. The whole

family can watch barrel racing, bull riding, roping, and racing events and enjoy food and kids’ activities.

Another great spot for the family is the Thunder River Theatre Company. Dramatic plays and improv nights are a few examples of the regular performances at this community theater.
